“SNL” writers Andrew Steele and Matt Piedmont are bringing back the hardboiled detective genre in their new IFC miniseries “The Spoils Before Dying.” The sequel to the Emmy-winning miniseries “The Spoils of Babylon” will follow a 1950s jazz pianist who gets wrapped up in a murder investigation.

The pianist-turned-investigator will be played by Michael K. Williams (“Boardwalk Empire”), and his various cohorts and suspects are made up of a star-studded cast including Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Hayley Joel Osment, Michael Sheen, Kate McKinnon and other big comedy names.

The six-part saga will air as a three-night comedy series on IFC with two back-to-back half hour episodes from July 8-10.
