Way, way back in 2011, plot rumors swirled about “Man Of Steel,” and one (largely untrustworthy) site put forth a notion that Metallo would be the villain, with the plot revolving around Lois Lane’s father building the experimental cyborg with Kryptonite to defeat Superman. Obviously, that didn’t happen. But it seems that the baddie wasn’t far from the minds of those at Warner Bros.
In the print edition of EW, Zack Snyder reveals what he was thinking of for the followup to “Man Of Steel” before “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” became a reality. “I remember talking about ‘What’s the next villain?'” he said. “‘We can’t do another alien invasion.’ Brianiac was definitely down the road. Metallo, I think, was going to be the main bad guy of this movie.”
Well, it’s certainly an intriguing thought, particularly as the DC-verse of movies continues to expand. It’ll be interesting to see if Snyder revisits the character (played by Brian Austin Green on “Smallville”) down the line — perhaps for “Justice League”? — And see if it will make a good fit for the gritty world that Warner Bros. and co. are putting together.
