While it has almost become an accepted part of comic book movie culture that you’ll know everything about the next superhero movie before it opens, can that same fanbase retain some surprise and excitement for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens“? Certainly, Disney and Lucasfilm have done everything they can to keep a lid on plot details but with the movie on the horizon you can bet the frenzied excitement will mean some slips about key characters and story beats. And for Simon Pegg, who has a cameo in the film, he wishes everyone would just take a deep breath.
“It’s out in four months. People are so desperate to see it — it’s like another trailer is just going to be more footage that’s gonna kind of spoil it if you watch it,” he told Yahoo. “I just wish people would hold tight and not worry so much about seeing it so quickly.”
And he does have a point. Events like “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” are rare, movies that galvanize not just sci-fans or genre enthusiasts, but big parts of the general movie going public who grew up with the series. Imagine sitting in a dark theater, watching ‘The Force Awakens’ for the first time, and having a pure experience for everyone, because none of the details and very little footage has been revealed.
It’s a nice dream, but it probably won’t happen. ‘The Force Awakens’ opens on December 18th. Let us know what you think about Pegg’s comments below.
