Trailer Watch: Jennifer Lawrence Falls in Love, Shoots a Gun, Tries to Get What She Wants in 'Joy'

David O. Russell makes another film about ambition gone awry in “Joy,” the director’s third collaboration with star Jennifer Lawrence

A trailer for the film inspired by inventor Joy Mangano features a children’s chorus singing The Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” — a hard reality that Lawrence’s Joy challenges with determination.

As a young woman, Joy does things the way she was told — fall in love, get married, have children — but her dreams and aspirations soon land her in legal trouble — and with a rifle in her hand.

The real-life Mangano holds over a hundred patents and appears regularly on the Home Shopping Network. She is the president of Ingenious Designs and is best known for creating the Miracle Mop and Huggable Hangers. It’ll be interesting to see how the HSN version of Mangano lines up with the one in this grittier, saltier film.

Lawrence previously won an Oscar for Russell’s “Silver Linings Playbook” and was nominated for her supporting role in his last film, “American Hustle.”

“Joy” is planned for a Christmas 2015 release, just in time for Oscar season.
