“Mad Men” actress Elisabeth Moss just earned an Emmy nomination for her stirring work as Peggy Olson on the hit AMC drama, but based on the new trailer for Alex Ross Perry’s “Queen of Earth,” the upcoming psychological drama might be her most fearless role to date.
The film follows two lifelong friends, played by Moss and “Inherent Vice” breakout Katherine Waterston, who retreat to a beach house and discover that not all is right with Moss’ mentally unraveling would-be artist. Patrick Fugit and Kate Lyn Sheil also star.
“Queen of Earth” finds writer-director Perry flexing his genre muscles after the critical acclaim from last year’s “Listen Up Philip.” Considering all the provocative imagery and chilling narration, plus the film’s rave reviews out of screenings in Berlin and BAMcinemaFest, the drama looks to be quite an emotionally possessive experience.
IFC Films will release the drama in select theaters beginning August 26.
