Asif Kapadia’s “Amy” is an autopsy of a fallen star’s death-spiral, and of the myth of the celebrity trainwreck. Full of texture and truth, this extraordinary music documentary details how we were all complicit in Winehouse’s demise at 27. The film does not try and tell us what it was that made Winehouse such a raw talent, because we already know. Her voice was a preternatural gift gone too soon. You leave the movie pissed off and regretful and angry at the world, and yourself.
“Amy” is now in theaters from A24.
