After successful festival runs in Park City and Berlin, Anna Muylaert’s award-winning Brazilian drama “The Second Mother” has landed stateside with its first U.S. trailer.

“The Second Mother” focuses on Val (Regina Casé), a hard-working live-in housekeeper in modern day Sao Paulo, who is perfectly content taking care of every one of her wealthy employers’ needs, from cooking and cleaning to being a surrogate mother to their teenage son, who she has raised since he was a toddler. But everything changes when Val’s estranged daughter suddenly appears and throws the intrinsic class barriers that exist within the home into disarray.

The new trailer highlights the familial and class tensions central to “The Second Mother,” as well as its poignant character relationships and biting sense of humor. Expectations are high on this one, as it won the Special Jury Prize for Acting at Sundance back in January.

Check out the trailer above. “The Second Mother” hits theaters on August 28.
