I have to be honest
and tell you that I’m really hooked on this new documentary webseries called “Pretty.” The wonder is why it took me so long to discover it, since it started
back in January of this year, and, to date, there are some 16 episodes, with more
was created by Antonia Opiah (who we have previously written about HERE) who had worked
in digital marketing for other companies before deciding to follow her path and strike
out on her own to create her own business. So she moved to Paris and created
her own beauty and lifestyle website for black women called Un’ruly.
also inspired her to start producing a web series for which Ms. Opiah traveled
to London, Paris and Milan to talk to various black women of various different
backgrounds, shades, complexions and experiences, about a wide range of subjects, from their lives, their backgrounds, fashion, feminism, self esteem and how to get it and, of

beauty in the traditional “Oooh she’s
cute” superficial sense of how someone looks, but inner beauty, while also
taking to task the antiquated but stubborn opinion that beauty is defined as blond,
blue eyed and pencil thin.
As Ms Opiah
says, “Pretty”… “explores just how nuanced
beauty can be, by not only taking a look at how beauty standards vary from
country to country, but also how they might vary within a city”.
are beautifully well made, fascinating, and there isn’t a bad one in the bunch. In a recent TV interview, Ms. Opiah said that she just recently traveled
to Tel Aviv and Casablanca to interview black women there for her series.
