Tig Notaro has been through a lot in the last several years, but she has let nothing slow her down, using tragedy as fuel for her journey to success. Three years after her diagnosis with stage II breast cancer, Notaro has a Grammy nomination under her belt, a Sundance sensation documenting her struggle, and a loyal following comprised of everyone from the LGBTQ community, to cancer survivors, to her fellow comedy stars.
Many of the latter appear in the trailer for Notaro’s upcoming comedy special on HBO. Jack Black, Sarah Silverman, Kristen Schaal, James Corden and more sing her praises (“I had no idea that she was so famous,” marvels Corden) and profess their love for Tig. Cheryl Hines says, “I hope she’s watching this. She’s gonna throw up.” Notaro herself appears only briefly at the end, replying with her signature brand of brutally honest, understated humor.
“Tig Notaro: Boyish Girl Interrupted” was filmed in front of a live audience in the Wilbur Theatre in Boston and will debut August 22 on HBO. It is co-directed by Notaro and produced by Funny or Die.
