In 'Babygirl' Teen Sets Up Trap to Expose Mother's Creepy Boyfriend, But... (Trailer + New Release Info)

Now a lot more of you will finally be able to see Macdara Vallely’s Tribeca Film Festival 2012 selection, “Babygirl,” which I’ve just been informed will become available on iTunes and VOD on August 25, 2015.

Starring rising star Yainis Ynoa (Starz’s “Power”), “Babygirl” follows Bronx teenager Lena, who, for as long as she can remember, has watched her mother Lucy squander her life away on a series of deadbeat men. When Victor, her mom’s latest boy toy, starts hitting on Lena, she sets up a trap to expose Victor for the creep that he is… but the plan backfires, as young Lena finds herself trapped in a twisted love-triangle between Victor and her mom, leading to a necessary confrontation of some difficult truths about the world in which she lives.

I saw it at Tribeca in 2012, and will need to revisit so that I can write about it extensively. But I do recall it being a rather heartfelt drama, with a standout performance by Ms Ynoa.

Her mother is played by Rosa Arredondo.

The film was shot on location in and around New York in the fall of 2010 on a reported budget of just under $1 million.

A trailer for the film is embedded below. Look for it on iTunes and other VOD platforms next week Tuesday.
