TV comedy vets Kari Lizer and Bill Wrubel have received a pilot production commitment from ABC for their new single-cam series set in the world of girls’ soccer.
Written and EP’d by Lizer and Wrubel, "Dream Team" will center on an intense coach named Marty Schumacher with a long list of wins. A pretty great mentor but a Hall of Famer in his own mind, Marty is followed by a documentary crew as he forms a new team — drawn from girls of diverse families — that he intends to take to the top. The show is based on Lizer’s experiences as a soccer mom on the weekends.
Produced in part by Warner Bros. TV, "Dream Team" is being discussed as a companion to the ABC’s long-running "Modern Family."
