It’s been rumored for several months now, but at D23 today, Disney revealed that Orlando Bloom will reprise his role as Will Turner in the fifth ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales."
The cast of the fifth installment now includes Javier Bardem, Geoffrey Rush, Brenton Thwaites, Kaya Scodelario, Bloom, and, of course, Johnny Depp. Directed by Norwegian duo Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, ‘Pirates 5’ is due July 7, 2017. Here are more details from Disney:
A surprise visit by Johnny Depp, who showed up on stage completely decked out as Captain Jack Sparrow, brought down the house and thrilled fansat Sean Bailey’s presentation of the next exciting film in the “Pirates of the Caribbean “ franchise, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.”
Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.
The film is directed by Espen Sandberg & Joachim Rønning and stars Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, Brenton Thwaites, Kevin R. McNally, Kaya Scodelario, Golshifteh Farahani, Stephen Graham, David Wenham and Geoffrey Rush. Jerry Bruckheimer is the producer and Chad Oman, Mike Stenson, Joe Caracciolo, Jr. and Brigham Taylor serve as executive producers.
