Just when we thought we knew everything about the year in movies, the fall movie season keeps surprising us. This past week, the New York Film Festival unveiled its official lineup — including, somewhat unexpectedly, Steven Spielberg’s Cold War-era drama “Bridge of Spies.” Just like that, a movie that wasn’t a huge part of the emerging Oscar season conversation jumped right into it. In this week’s episode of Screen Talk, co-hosts Anne Thompson and Eric Kohn analyze new titles added to the NYFF program as well as the Toronto International Film Festival’s ever-expanding program to assess the awards season conversation so far. The episode ends with another surprise — Kohn’s recommendation for a movie he saw on a recent flight.
