When we saw them in the first season of “Doll & Em,” the fictional versions of actress Emily Mortimer and her less successful BFF Dolly Wells were on the outs after Doll’s short tenure as Em’s personal assistant turned into an “All About Eve” situation.
The show’s sophomore season finds the two on more equal footing, with the lifelong pals in NYC attempting to launch an off-Broadway play about themselves. Olivia Wilde and Evan Rachel Wood guest star as themselves, angling to play Doll and Em, while bold-namers Ewan McGregor and Harvey Weinstein also appear in the trailer. But the heart of the show is an exploration of how their professional partnership impacts their grown-up friendship, which becomes more and more complicated with success.
“Doll & Em” Season 2 premieres Sunday, September 13 at 10:30pm on HBO.
