For weeks now, “Sense8” fans have been waiting for the news that Netflix would be picking up a new season of the series created by the Wachowskis and J. Michael Straczynski. But Netflix picked a very appropriate day to do so: today, August 8 (yup, “8/8”), happens to be the shared birthday of the eight strangers who find themselves psychically connected across time and space.
The above video, posted on the official “Sense8” Twitter feed, features nearly every “sensate” at the center of the show serenading their fellow cluster members (Tuppence Middleton doesn’t appear, but supporting cast members Freema Agyeman and Alfonso Herrera do pop by). There’s no official word as to when we might expect Season 2 to begin, but everyone seems pretty excited to come back for more.
“Sense8” has been one of the odder entries in Netflix’s original series line-up, earning a lot of well-deserved praise for its commitment to a diverse cast of characters and an extremely optimistic message about humanity’s need for connection, while also confusing critics who wrote their reviews based only on the first three episodes.
But if you watched the whole thing, there was a lot to like, and it’s exciting to know that the Wachowskis and J. Michael Straczynski will be able to continue the story — which, according to Straczynski, they see running as a five-season series.
We’ve probably got quite some time to wait for more news about Season 2 — but in the meantime, “Sense8” Season 1 is streaming now on Netflix.
