The Alliance for Women Film Composers (AWFC) has just launched an online directory of female film, television, video game and media composers for their official site. The organization’s President, Laura Karpman, argues that many women in Hollywood today are unable to participate in fields that for many years, have been largely closed to them. Her program’s aim is to provide a network for talented and like-minded women in film to come together through advocacy, support and mentorship.
“The directory is a huge part of this mission,” said Karpman, in a statement. “We want to show that there are many many qualified women composers. We have the credits. We have the skills. We have the experience. No longer will any director, producer, game developer, executive be able to say that there are no women composers. We have multitudes and they are listed.”
The alliance is an all volunteer organization, and is actively searching for new hosts for their gatherings, data entry specialists, web management professionals, and music editing and mastering technicians.
