Breaking Glass Pictures has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Joseph Frank and Zachary Reed’s acclaimed docu-drama “Sweaty Betty,” starring Seth Dubois and Floyd Rich. The film also boasts the credit of “Straight Outta Compton” producer Bill Straus.
The film takes place in a low income neighborhood on the border of Washington D.C., where Floyd and his family have raised a 1,000-pound pig with the hopes of turning her into the new team mascot for the Redskins football team. However, this big pig draws the attention of some scheming neighbors, Rico and Scooby, who want a better life for themselves and their children.
“‘Sweaty Betty’ offers a unique voice and perspective that echoes a new age mumble core,” says Breaking Glass’ VP of Sales and Distribution Michael Repsch. “We are ecstatic to bring this film to audiences, in our constant mission of offering people diverse cinema experiences.”
The deal was negotiated by CEO of Breaking Glass Rich Wolff, and Producer Bill Straus of BGP.
The film made its world premiere at the 2015 South by Southwest Film Festival where it received glowing reviews. It then went on to win Best Feature Film at the 2015 Brooklyn Film Festival. Breaking Glass is planning a theatrical release in New York City, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. on November 27, as well as an iTunes, Amazon Instant, Xbox and VOD release on December 8.
