Paramount Pictures has acquired worldwide rights to Charlie Kaufman’s second feature film, "Anomalisa." The stop-motion comedy-drama is the director’s first film since 2008’s critically acclaimed "Synecdoche, New York" and features a voice cast of David Thewlis, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Tom Noonan. Kaufman co-directed the film with director Duke Johnson.
"Anomalisa" centers around the relationship between an unmotivated motivational speaker and an enigmatic woman he meets during a session. The film has earned critical acclaim at TIFF and Telluride, where Indiewire Film Critic Eric Kohn raved, "The master of Kafkaesque character studies delivers a visually compelling mystery with more than a few profound ideas."
The deal has reportedly been made for seven figures. Paramount is planning an awards-qualifying run starting December 30 in New York and Los Angeles.
