Saban Films has acquired North American distribution rights to "MI-5," a spy thriller lead by "Game of Thrones" star Kit Harington. Not to be confused with Tom Cruise’s latest "Mission: Impossible" installment, "MI-5" is based on the original BAFTA Award-winning BBC television series "Spooks," with which it shares its director, Bharat Nalluri. Peter Firth ("Spooks") and Jennifer Ehle ("Fifty Shades of Grey") co-star.
Momentarily escaping rumors about the fate of his "Game of Thrones" character Jon Snow, Kit Harington plays Will Holloway, who must work with a disgraced MI-5 Intelligence Chief (Firth) under extreme pressure, when a terrorist escapes from custody.
"’MI-5′ is an espionage thriller led by the talented Kit Harington,” said Saban Films President Bill Bromiley. “Given the strong and loyal following of actioners, we are confident that fans will delight in the film based on the hit UK series.”
The film was produced by Ollie Madden, Jane Featherstone and Stephen Garrett for Shine Pictures and Kudos. "MI-5" was co-produced by Jane Hooks and Robert Norris. Saban Films plans for a theatrical release this December.
