Smithers Is Finally Going To Come Out on 'The Simpsons'

It only took him 27 years, but Smithers is finally coming out.

The producers of “The Simpsons” have said that Mr. Burns’ long suffering assistant will come out at some point during the remarkably long-running series’ new season. We’ve known all along, as have many “Simpsons” characters — but Mr. Burns is not among them.

“We deal with that in two episodes,” said executive producer Al Jean. “We actually do a lot with Smithers this year; he gets fed up with Burns not appreciating him and considers his options.”

The episode will come just over 10 years after Marge’s sister Patty came out in 2004.
