At a “random time” today, Mondo will drop new posters for two indie horror flicks out in theaters this weekend: the uncanny identity crisis that is “Goodnight Mommy” and “Cooties,” a zombie-comedy featuring flesh-eating preteens.
The poster for “Goodnight Mommy” features the titular mother’s bandages with the face underneath fading away into a jet black background. A smear of blood on the bandages mimics tears, which provides a bright red highlight and reflects the film’s emotional theme of mixing terror and maternal sadness.
The “Cooties” poster, a collaboration between Jay Shaw and Jason Edmiston, is a very retro design with a skeletal hand holding a brightly colored spiral lollipop, folding a classic symbol of childhood into the horror aesthetic. According to the Mondo website, Shaw made the poster before he was able to watch the film, drawing from the premise alone. An inspiration for the film came from another horror comedy, “House,” the poster for which featured a disembodied hand ringing a doorbell.
Check out these two poster designs below. Both are 18 x 24 and will sell for $35. Mondo will have 125 “Cooties” posters available and only 100 for “Goodnight Mommy.” Keep an eye on the Mondo website today for the release.
