Watch: Passion is Pitted Against the Hays Code in Hitchcock Kissing Supercut

The Master of Suspense was also quite the romantic according to Vimeo user Jorge Luengo Ruiz, who put together this supercut of kisses spanning thirty years of Alfred Hitchcock’s films. The creator highlights the fact that the director had to work around the infamous Hays Code in representing any type of romantic passion between his characters, and some of these moments (especially the two minute long kiss from “Notorious”) skirted the line between acceptable and censorship at the time.

The video condenses the chemistry between some of cinema’s most iconic leading men and leading ladies into one three minute long package, and serves as a reminder that these little displays of affection electrified audiences at the time of their release, despite being tame by today’s standards.
