Though the title evokes a quiet, unobtrusive film, the trailer for Lorenzo Vigas’ debut film, “From Afar,” suggests the Venezuelan thriller will be an incredibly provocative and draining experience. The film is Vigas’ first feature and will screen to expectant audiences at the Venice Film Festival and TIFF in the coming month.
“From Afar” follows Armando (Alfredo Castro), a wealthy man with a habit of luring young men to his home with the promise of money. When he crosses paths with a young street thug, their initial fascination grows to mutual intimacy, but when Armando’s past returns to him, it is unclear whether either of them are strong enough to withstand its wake.
The film will play in competition at the 2015 Venice Film Festival on September 10. Watch the harrowing trailer above.
