X-Rated Ken Russell, 'Legend,' 35mm Classics, Edgar Wright, Al Pacino Set for LA's Beyond Fest

Beyond Fest has unveiled its 2015 program, set to bring 11 days of mayhem to Hollywood’s Egyptian Theatre from October 1 through October 12.

18 west coast premieres will make their way to Beyond Fest, opening with Brian Hegeland’s “Legend” starring Tom Hardy as twin mobsters Ronald and Reginald Kray, and closing with Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s masterful martial arts ballet “The Assassin,” a Cannes premiere headed for Toronto.

Beyond Fest has also slated a bevvy of scary classics—and in 35mm. An “Evil Dead” double bill will be presented, in person, by Bruce Campbell and Edgar Wright, with 25 tickets to be gifted free to fans sporting an “Evil Dead” tattoo.

Many more special guests are also expected to attend. Ninja, of South African rap-rave group Die Antwoord, will present a rare 35mm screening of David Lynch’s “Eraserhead”; Henry Rollins will introduce the west coast premiere of his cannibal shocker “He Never Died”; Al Pacino will sit in conversation with Brett Ratner for the 40th anniversary of “Dog Day Afternoon”; and The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail will host a 30th anniversary screening of “Better Off Dead.”

And there’s more. Beyond Fest will screen the rarely seen, original, X-rated 35mm cut of Ken Russell’s British psychotropic horror film “The Devils,” starring Vanessa Redgrave as a repressed, hunchbacked nun who experiences a visceral sexual awakening. Cult director Bernard Rose, a longtime acolyte of Russell’s, will introduce the screening.
