At last weekend’s NYFF premiere of Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s visually stunning wuxia epic, “The Assassin,” the director met up with fellow auteurs Ang Lee and Mira Nair.

Lee, whose many well-known films include “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” “Brokeback Mountain” and “Life of Pi,” Nair, the director of “Monsoon Wedding” and “Salaam Bombay,” and Hou are some of Asia’s most lauded directors, and between the three of them, these directors form an impressive list of awards and artistic achievements.

Both Nair and Lee have done plenty of work in their home countries, while also going abroad to direct international hits here in America. One question this meet up raises is whether Hou will spread his wings and bring some of “The Assassin’s” beauty to stateside audiences with an English-language debut.
