After becoming the star of the summer by kicking patriarchy’s pasty, shriveled ass in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” Charlize Theron appears to be pursuing more action roles.
The Oscar winner is in talks to play the lead in “The Gray Man,” a production that once had Brad Pitt attached for the same role that Theron is gunning for. Based on Mark Greaney’s novel, the film originally centered on “an expert CIA op-turned-assassin who is forced to evade adversaries as he saves the lives of daughters he didn’t know he had,” according to Deadline. The parental angle is harder to sort out with a biological mother than a father, but I’m sure the writers will find some sort of workaround.
Deadline observes that gender-flipping a script doesn’t happen very often, which speaks to Theron’s increasing clout in the industry. The actress’s production company, Denver and Delilah, will help produce the thriller.
