First Look: Exclusive Poster for Denmark's Oscar Entry, 'A War'

In “A War,” writer/director Tobias Lindholm—perhaps best known to American audiences as the wordsmith behind popular TV series “Borgen” and Thomas Vinterberg’s “The Hunt”—follows up 2012’s “A Hijacking” by delving into the Danish military’s involvement in Afghanistan. When company commander Claus M. Pederson (Pilou Asbæk) is forced to make a terrible battlefield decision, the consequences play out not only for him, but also for his wife (Tuva Novotny) and three children back in Denmark.

The film premiered at this year’s Venice Film Festival, where The Playlist’s Jessica Kiang called it a “bruising two hours of you-are-there cinema,” and the heartfelt, fly-on-the-wall realism of this exclusive poster bears out that assessment. Distributor Magnolia Pictures will release “A War,” Denmark’s official Oscar submission, in the U.S. on Feb. 12, 2016.
