Gravitas Ventures has picked up North American distribution rights to the psychological possession thriller “Anguish.” Written and directed by Sonny Malhi in his feature film debut, the film premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival earlier this year.

Inspired by true events, the movie stars Ryan Simpkins as Tess, a teenage girl with a supernatural gift that allows spirits to take control of her body. When the soul of a recently deceased girl inhabits her, she she must decide whether she wants to keep fighting or succumb to the soul who refuses to leave. Karina Logue and Annika Marks also star.

“I am looking forward to working with Gravitas,” stated Mallhi. “This is an accomplished distribution group with a proven track record in horror – it’s exciting to be partnered with them.”

“We were drawn to the terrifying, small town world created by veteran filmmaker Sonny Mallhi,” added Gravitas Founder and CEO Nolan Gallagher.

The deal was negotiated by Nolan Gallagher, Founder and CEO, Gravitas Ventures and by Alex Saks at ICM Partners and Robert Labate of Holland and Knight on behalf of the filmmakers.
