The Denver Film Society has just announced the 2015 winners of the John Cassavetes Award and the Maria & Tomasso Maglione Italian Filmmaker Award at the Denver Film Festival. The 38th edition of the festival will run from November 4-15.

The John Cassavetes award will go to actor and director John Turturro, known for his frequent work with the Coen Brothers and Spike Lee. Particularly memorable performances include Jesus Quintana (aka “The Jesus”) in “The Big Lebowski” and Pete Hogwallop in “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” Turturro recently directed the film “Fading Gigolo,” starring himself and Woody Allen.

The Maria & Tomasso Maglione Italian Filmmaker Award will go to Nanni Moretti, whose latest film “Mia Madre,” John Turturro, will screen as a special presentation at the 2015 Denver Film Festival. Moretti is best known for the 2001 Palm d’Or winner “The Son’s Room” and for “Il Caimano,” a scathing portrait of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

The award presentation will take place on Thursday, November 12 at the Denver Film Festival.
