The Moët British Independent Film Awards have announced that Oscar winner Kate Winslet will be the recipient of this year’s Variety Award. The ceremony takes place on December 6.

The Variety Award recognizes a director, actor, writer or producer who has made a global impact and helped to focus the international spotlight on the UK. Past winners include Benedict Cumberbatch, Kenneth Branagh, Liam Neeson, Sir Michael Caine, Daniel Craig and Dame Helen Mirren.

“I am thrilled to be receiving this Award and to be in the company of a whole host of brilliant filmmakers and actors, many of whom I’m lucky enough to call friends and colleagues,” said Winslet. “It’s an honour to be flying the flag for British filmmaking.”

The actress is back in the awards race this year thanks to her supporting turn as Joanna Hoffman in “Steve Jobs.” The film, directed by Danne Boyle, is now playing nationwide.
