Despite production horror stories and rumors of scheduling delays, Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s “The Revenant” is moving ahead with its Christmas release date, and the latest marketing is an official teaser poster that is both expansive and literal.

The adventure drama stars Leonardo DiCaprio as American explorer Hugh Glass, who is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own team, led by Tom Hardy’s John Fitzgerald. Injured but alive, Glass embarks through the wilderness and a harsh winter in the pursuit of vengeance and redemption. Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulter co-star.

While DiCaprio is certainly the big sell here, the poster forgoes any reference to him (not even his name is printed), nor does it mention Iñárritu’s, who won the Best Director Oscar last year for “Birdman.” Instead, the teaser poster is simply a striking image of the open wilderness, with the definition of the title teasing its revenge-fueled storyline.

Starting a campaign to include "One who has returned…" in the film’s proper title just like "The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance." All future Inarritu films should be named in this fashion.
