Alicia Vikander became a breakout success earlier this year with her transfixing performance in April’s “Ex Machina,” but it wasn’t until two months later that her real star potential was cemented in the period romance “Testament of Youth.”
Directed by James Kent, the drama stars Vikander as Vera Brittain, a young woman in 1914 Britain who sacrifices her promising education at Somerville College to join the World War I effort as a nurse in the Voluntary Aid Detachment. Her service takes her from London to Malta and France, where she sees firsthand the horrors of war as she tends to hurt and dying soldiers from Britain and Germany.
The actress earned rave reviews for her vulnerable central performance, and the exclusive featurette above takes viewers behind the scenes of the production’s epic setting and intimate emotional reach. The movie co-stars Kit Harington and hits Blu-ray, DVD and Digital tomorrow, October 20. Purchase a copy of the film here.
