Shot during and after Hurricane Sandy, “The Dark Side” is a docufiction film that follows Dan, a young man who butt dials his ex, also named Sandy, amidst the confusion of the hurricane’s blackout and takes it as a sign he must visit her. This romantic comedy is intercut with documentary interviews with firemen who lost their homes to the storm.

The behind-the-scenes documentary, “The Making of The Dark Side,” follows the largely improvised production of the film and its unique timeline that ran parallel to Hurricane Sandy. Interviews with director Richard Ledes and stars Edoardo Ballerini and Ali Ahn illuminate how the crew managed to shoot a film when most of New York City’s lights wouldn’t turn on, how they blended the unlikely pairing of documentary and romantic comedy, and how volunteering after the storm led them to the human story at the core of the film.

“The Dark Side” will be released via online streaming through VHX, Amazon Prime, Hulu and SnagFilms on October 29, the third anniversary of Hurricane Sandy.
