Prior to TIFF, “Our Brand Is Crisis” seemed like an obvious, slam dunk, awards season contender. David Gordon Green was at the helm of a George Clooney-produced movie, based on a true story no less, with Sandra Bullock in the lead role, with a great ensemble around her. Then the reviews came in (here’s ours). Not particularly well received in Toronto, Warner Bros. seems to have already realized the picture is a non-starter and have been rather muted in their push, but with the release date a couple of weeks away, the promo machine is modestly kicking up.
Five clips, a handful of TV spots, and lots of new images have landed online. Based on Rachel Boynton‘s documentary of the same name, the film follows an American political guru who is called in to help on the presidential campaign in the race for leadership of a South American nation. But soon her cynicism for the system is worn down when she realizes what’s at stake.
Co-starring Billy Bob Thornton, Anthony Mackie, Scoot McNairy, Zoe Kazan, and more, “Our Brand Is Crisis” opens on October 30th.
