READ MORE: Watch Trailer-Tease for Focus Features’ Jesse Owens Biopic
A first trailer has been released for “Race,” which recounts Jesse Owens’ inspiring and historic victory in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Owens won four gold medals in track and field at an Olympics designed by Hitler as an attempt to prove the superiority of his Aryan ideal.
While Owens was rightfully hailed as a hero and a champion ever since, the trailer proves it wasn’t always smooth sailing for the world’s fastest man. Facing the rampant racism of 1930’s America and pressure from friends, family and coaches both to participate and not to participate, Owens had to rise to the challenge of representing his nation, his people and his ideals.
The sports drama stars Stephan James as Jesse Owens, as well as Jason Sudeikis and Jeremy Irons in supporting roles. “Race” is set to hit theaters in February 2016. Watch the trailer above, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies.
