The upcoming documentary “Frame by Frame” follows a group of individuals who are the first group in a decade to learn about photography in Afghanistan since the Taliban’s decree against the medium. Though they now have the power to share a cultural identity with the rest of the world through photos, they face new forms of oppression from those who want to silence their images.

The doc is directed by Alexandria Bombach and Mo Scarpelli and is as much about preserving the memory of a people as it is trying to figure out what Afghanistan’s future should look like. Through the lens of a camera, audiences will see how some believe celebrating and sharing photography is a moral obligation.

“Frame by Frame” will open in Los Angeles at the Laemmle Music Hall on November 6 and in New York City on November 20 at IFC Center. Watch the exclusive trailer above.
