It all starts with an idea, and in this case, it was Jonathan Levine who came up with the concept to reteam him with his “50/50” stars, Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. “He came to me and Evan [Goldberg] as producers and said he had an idea for a Christmas movie and we thought, ‘That’s weird,’ [laughs] and then he explained kind of his vision and reminded us of all the Christmas movies we loved growing up and all of the nostalgia you get to play with and the fact that there kind of is a void when it comes to, you know, Christmas movies aimed at our generation and just generally being the type of movie that people like us would be excited to go see,” Rogen told Collider. “So that’s where it all started, with Levine’s idea, and then we asked Joe if he would be in it, basically.”
And so here we are with “The Night Before,” with Anthony Mackie rounding out the lead trio, and a great supporting case in place including Jillian Bell, Lizzy Caplan, Mindy Kaling, and more. The story for the holiday movie follows three friends who have celebrated the holiday season together for years. However, each of their lives has become so busy that the yearly tradition must come to an end, so they decide to go out with a bang. Christmas has never had this much debauchery.
“The Night Before” opens on November 20th. Watch below.
