Tom Hanks and Jimmy Fallon made professional screenwriters everywhere feel dumber than a fifth grader on Thursday’s “The Tonight Show.” The duo did Fallon’s recurring “Kid Theater” segment, performing Hanks’ “Bridge of Spies” as rewritten by elementary school children. The catch is that the kids were only given the title of the film, and the results are nothing short of theatrical brilliance.
While one kid follows the concept to its Marx Brothers-esque finale, other renderings feature darker themes like mistaken identity, the toll of a duplicitous life and the necessity of bringing binoculars to the job.
In addition to making you laugh, the stage adaptation of Steven Spielberg’s latest effort will make you feel older and less talented than you ever have before. Check out the clip above.
