Ben Stiller’s film production company, Red Hour, which is responsible such films as “Zoolander,” “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story,” “Tropic Thunder” and “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” has pacted with Bold Films for a new slate of film, television and digital projects.
Bold Films, which launched a decade ago, will provide much of the development overhead and production financing for Stiller’s new ventures. The London, LA and NYC-based production house has delivered such awards contenders as last year’s “Whiplash” and “Nightcrawler,” as well as Nicolas Winding Refn’s surprise 2011 cult hit, “Drive.”
Nicky Weinstock, former creative head of Apatow Productions and senior vice president of Chernin Entertainment, will be a part of the new team. “Our financial backing from Bold enables us to put together films and shows both inside and outside the traditional studio and network systems,” stated Weinstock, “giving us a flexibility, and the means to go full-tilt on our projects, that’s all too rare these days.”
