Are "Carol" and "The Martian" in the same universe? A wide range of Oscar contenders mixed freely at the Academy Governors Awards last weekend, as the race reached a fever pitch before the upcoming Thanksgiving break. This week, The Hollywood Reporter admitted its reasons for shooting an all-white cover of awards actress candidates.

We also look at the latest batch of upcoming movies, including "The Big Short" and "Creed," and I recall my first job in the movie business at United Artists, where I worked on the first "Rocky."
