Strand Releasing has acquired “From Afar” (“Desde Alla”), the first Venezuelan film to ever win the coveted Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, where it competed earlier this year. The thriller, which follows the unconventional relationship between a wealthy man and a hustler, is director Lorenzo Viga’s debut film. Alfredo Castro and Luis Silva star as the film’s central pair.

“‘From Afar’ is one of the most audacious debuts we’ve seen in quite a while. Vigas has already established himself as a world class filmmaker,” said Jon Gerrans of Strand Releasing.

The drama recently had its U.S. premiere at AFI FEST 2015, where it won a special jury prize for Best Screenplay. “From Afar” is slated to be released in the spring of next year.
