Are there any superlatives left for “Carol“? The ravishing drama starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara has been blanketed with praise since its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, and now, audiences can finally check out what critics have been swooning over. With the movie in theaters today, a new trailer plus an “Anatomy Of A Scene” featurette with Todd Haynes have arrived online.
Based on the novel “The Price Of Salt” by Patricia Highsmith, the 1950s set tale centers on the romance that blooms between a married woman and young department store clerk. But don’t think of it as strictly a lesbian tale. “Because the love story here is between two women, I think the audience feels like they’re seeing something dangerous and uncharted, in the same way that anyone — whether they’re transgendered, bi, straight, lesbian, gay — does when they fall head over heels for someone for the very first time,” Blanchett told Rolling Stone. “But I think what Todd was interested in bringing out was the sensation of being in love profoundly for the first time. It feels as if you’re inventing the wheel.”
