Sylvester Stallone, co-starring with Michael B. Jordan in this month’s “Creed”—from “Fruitvale Station” director Ryan Coogler—talks about his interest in painting, “mythological heroes,” and being taken seriously as a filmmaker in this full episode of “The Director’s Chair” with Robert Rodriguez (“From Dusk Till Dawn,” “Sin City”), made available via Facebook from the El Rey Network.

In their wide-ranging conversation, Stallone offers a glimpse of his thoughtful approach to the gritty, blue-collar action of the “Rocky” franchise, and what he learned from original “Rocky” director John G. Avildsen—including the iconic impact of using Philadelphia’s “‘Rocky’ steps.”

“Here is this intellectual bastion, a center of arts,” he says. “And here’s a guy in a sweatsuit, holes in his knees, sweaty. But the two worked. Just that contrast, that Rocky would seek out this place for a kind of physical and spiritual enlightenment.” Check the engaging trailer for “Creed,” with a muscle-bound Jordan as the son of former Rocky Balboa opponent Apollo Creed, below. The film hits theaters Nov. 25.
