'Carol' Sweeps NYFCC Awards, Saoirse Ronan and Kristen Stewart Also Recognized by Critics Group

The New York Film Critics Circle gave “Carol” the awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography in a major coup for the period lesbian romance. Todd Haynes’ latest film seemed from the get-go to be a heavyweight contender at the Oscars, and the accolades from the critics group will certainly help its case.

Two younger actresses were recognized by the NYFCC for their performances this year: Saoirse Ronan was named Best Actress for “Brooklyn” and Kristen Stewart Best Supporting Actress for “Clouds of Sils Maria.”

Inside Out” won Best Animated Film — an early victory that will inevitably herald the Pixar film’s domination of the animation field during awards season.
