‘Fargo’ Season 3 Not Expected to Air Until 2017

'Fargo' Season 3 Not Expected to Air Until 2017

Fargo” Season 3 will not make it to FX until 2017. Due to its winter setting and the meticulous writing process, showrunner Noah Hawley feels there is very little time this winter to have the show ready for next year.

Hawley spoke to reporters on a conference call Tuesday morning following the Season 2 finale that aired Monday night. The anthology series, which is currently in the writing phase, is expected to begin production in November, while the plan is to have the show ready by the Spring of 2017 — similar to Season 1’s April release. Hawley prefers having at least eight out of the 10 episodes written and having a clear view of the program before production, something that certainly contributes to the quality of “Fargo.”

The popular and critically acclaimed series will be set in 2010, going for a more contemporary timeframe only four years after the evets of Season 1. Although the characters in Season 1 won’t be making an appearance, the show promises a brand new story and set of characters to helm Season 3.

“That’s not to say that one of our stories might not intersect with characters we’ve seen before for a certain period of time,” Hawley added. “Our first year was set in 2006, but we didn’t really deal with what it’s like to be in that region in a more contemporary world. […] I like the idea that we’re now living in a very selfie-oriented culture — people photograph what they’re eating and put it up for other people to see — it feels like a social dynamic that is very antithetical to the Lutheran pragmatism of the region. So much of our crime stories are based around the difficulty people have expressing themselves and communicating.”

Hawley is always looking to tread new ground on each season of “Fargo,” telling reporters, “We didn’t tee up the story of Season 3 within the body of Season 2. That said, I think it’s very exciting to now think once more, ‘What else can you do with “Fargo”?'”
