First Look: Derek Cianfrance's 'Light Between Oceans' with Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander

Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander play a couple facing tough choices in Derek Cianfrance’s upcoming “The Light Between Oceans,” based on ML Stedman’s novel. In WWI-era Australia, they’re Tom and Isabel Sherbourne, a pair of lighthouse keepers who are raising a baby they rescued from an adrift rowboat. Rachel Weisz co-stars.

Produced by Touchstone, DreamWorks and Participant, among others, the film is to be distributed by Disney. It was shot across several months in New Zealand, Australia and Tasmania.

AA, I’m going to guess the three anti-Alicia Vikander comments are all the same person. How many adults have such a strong negative opinion about a minor actress who makes arty films. If anything, I’m just pleased they didn’t cast Carey Mulligan because she is so ubiquitous in this sort of movie that it becomes difficult to separate her from her other roles.

Sounds like you people need to broaden your horizons a bit. Vikander didn’t just pop out of thin air – A Royal Affair, Testament of Youth, Ex Machina…

Fassbender is always brilliant. Weisz is great. As for Vikander, who what when where why?

Wow, sounds like someone is obsessed with Alicia Vikander. I’ll be curious how this will work as a movie. The book was extremely inward. But, if Michael Fassbender is in it, maybe.

When would this Vikander thing realized that the "it" girl status is just within her circle, with most people watching movies had no idea about who she is. And people are definitely growing sick of her fame-thirsty who always had her name attached to Fassbender.

Indiewire has already done this when the news came out about a week ago, and comments box filled with more of disappointments over that vikan-who girl being cast in the movie. But then again, Weinstein might have just paid billions to push out her names. Fassbender and Weisz are no-doubt terrific, but Vikander is just as far as a living prove that money and the PR-connection can buy her everything.

Expecting this to debute in Cannes with strong possibility for Derek breakthrough for Cannes Film Festival awards.
