When you watch a “Mission: Impossible” movie, especially over the past couple entries, you’re not really showing up for the story. You’re buying a movie ticket to see Tom Cruise do some wild stunts and save the world, for reasons that ultimately don’t much matter. In fact, Christopher McQuarrie was quite clear that when writing “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation,” they came up with locations and action sequences first, and then strung up a story to put it all together. But if you needed a bit more padding for the movie, help has arrived.
Wired has dropped “Torn Asunder,” which explains what exactly Ethan Hunt gets up to when he goes rogue to track down the Syndicate. As you might expect, it’s a globe trotting affair, complete with car chases and more, and at eight pages long, it won’t take up too much time from your coffee break. Read it below.
