Fans of the original “The Office,” rejoice! Ricky Gervais has announced via Instagram that the spin-off film revolving around the character David Brent is already half-way through production. Pictures on the comedian’s account began last week, with yesterday’s post showing that Brent has his sights on a Grammy. It’s already safe to say we can expect a painfully uncomfortable performance.
For those of you wondering what business Brent has singing, the new film, titled “Life On The Road,” follows Brent 10 years after the end of “The Office,” as a travelling salesman. But this time around, he’s working for an industrial cleaning product distributor based in Slough, England. The reason why he thinks he can contend against Adele is because he’s trying to make it as a musician and plans to travel the country in pursuit.
Gervais gave his fans a snippet of what’s going on in Brent’s head on his blog, writing, “He thinks it’ll be like Scorsese doing the Rolling Stones, but we’ll show the full horror. He’s had to take two weeks off work and cash in his pension because the session musicians in the band are costing him more than he’s getting in ticket sales.”
Thrilled that he will get to relive the life of a man so impossibly out-of-tune with the rest of civilization, Gervais said, “I’m so excited that the world will see what David Brent is up to now and where his future lies. This film delves much more into his private life than “The Office” ever did, and we really get to peel back the layers of this extraordinary, ordinary man.”
Ricky Gervais will next be seen hosting the Golden Globe Awards in January 2016. “Life on the Road” will open in the United Kingdom on August 19, 2016, with Open Road planning for a wide U.S. theatrical release shortly thereafter.
