‘The Wiz Live!’ Producers Reunite with Choreographer Fatima Robinson on a Dance Drama for NBC

'The Wiz Live!' Producers Reunite with Choreographer Fatima Robinson on a Dance Drama for NBC

“The Wiz Live!” producers – Craig Zadan and Neil Meron – are reuniting with choreographer, Fatima Robinson, to produce a TV series for NBC based on Robinson’s life.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will be set in Los Angeles in the 1990’s, and is now in its early stages of development. It will be inspired by Robinson’s life as a dancer-turned-choreographer, and will focus on the period in which “dance begins to dominate pop culture on the streets and clubs that gave birth to hip-hop dance.”

As Zadan further explained: “We worked with her on the Oscars and knew she was special. We hired Fatima Robinson, who is not a Broadway choreographer, to do authentic black dancing. She comes from hip-hop and a lot of her point of view on dance is very gritty and authentic and raw.”

Zadan and Meron will executive produce. Robinson will executive produce and serve as choreographer.

The project is in search of a writer.

Robinson is among the producers for NBC’s “The Voice.” Her choreography credits include the films “Dreamgirls,” “Ali,” “Collateral,” “Miami Vice” and more. Her work has also been seen on Oscar telecasts, the Super Bowl, the Grammys and in music videos for like Pharrell Williams, Rihanna, Black-Eyed Peas, Sade and Brittany Spears.
