Trailer: Sony’s ‘Powers’ Season 2 (Did You Watch Season 1?)

Trailer: Sony's 'Powers' Season 2 (Did You Watch Season 1?)

I’m not a Sony Playstation Network subscriber, so, unfortunately, except for the first episode which was released for free online, I still haven’t watched season 1 of the PlayStation Original series “Powers,” produced by Sony Pictures Television, which was renewed for a second season earlier this year, slated for release in the US in 2016.

Season 1 is now available on Blu-ray, but I hoped Sony would eventually make the series available on some other streaming platform, like Netflix or Amazon Prime; but I suppose those other platforms don’t make their original series available elsewhere, so why should Sony? If you want to watch, you have to sign up for their service, just as you have to do the same to watch Netflix’s original series – at least initially.

By the way, you can also buy individual episodes of “Powers” on iTunes.

“The reception to ‘Powers’ has been incredible and we are thrilled to have successfully launched a platform for original content with the PlayStation gamer in mind,” said John Koller, Vice President of Platforms Marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America. “We believe original content will continue to be a key pillar as we broaden the value proposition for PlayStation Plus, and we’re excited for what’s to come with season two of ‘Powers.’”

“We are so grateful to the PlayStation nation and fans of ‘Powers’ for supporting us and making the second season a reality,” said “Powers” co-creator and Executive Producer, Brian Michael Bendis. “I speak for the entire cast & crew when I say that we are really excited about season two and the opportunity to tell the story of the biggest case in ‘Powers’ history.” By the way, Bendis is also co-creator of the Netflix/Marvel “Jessica Jones” series.

Setting records as the most-watched series premiere on PlayStation Network, per the Sony press release, fans of “Powers” made the show a hit, bringing a new viewing audience to the PlayStation ecosystem.

Inspired by the graphic novels of the same name, “Powers” follows the lives of 2 homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim. Walker and Pilgrim are assigned to investigate cases involving people with extraordinary abilities, referred to as “Powers.” Season 2 will continue to follow the detectives and the Powers Division team as they go up against commercialized, superhumans who impose their power on the public, which both worships and fears them.

Sharlto Copley stars as Christian Walker and Susan Heyward as Deena Pilgrim, the rambunctious, funny, agile, smart pro with various combat weapons and fighting styles.

Joining them in supporting roles are Logan Browning from VH1’s “Hit the Floor” (as Zora), as well as Max Fowler and Adam Godley.

Sony has released a first trailer for season of  “Powers” which premieres in 2016 (no official date yet). Watch the trailer below (and underneath, episode 1 of season 1, which was previously released online for free viewing).

If you have watched the entire first season, thoughts?
